Responsibilities

  • Work within the Trust Multidisciplinary Antimicrobial Management Team, which includes  
  • To participate in multidisciplinary team activities to provide advice on infection Management i.e. ward rounds, antimicrobial stewardship rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • To assist the advanced specialist antimicrobial pharmacist on trust projects to influence change in practice as identified in the antimicrobial stewardship plan. 
  • To lead in provision of education for doctors, independent prescribers, nurses and pharmacists to support medicines management of antimicrobials. 
  • To ensure best use of electronic prescribing to support antimicrobial stewardship, working with the EPMA team to develop antimicrobial protocols and to produce EPMA reports, developing local systems and processes to encourage regular review of antimicrobial prescriptions and peer review of antimicrobial prescribing. 
  • To lead on the stewardship activities, the reduced consumption and 72 hour review of antimicrobials as part of the National Antimicrobial Resistance CQUIN. 
  • To develop local networks across all care settings to communicate information and share learning on antimicrobial prescribing, antimicrobial resistance and patient safety incidents. 
  • To carry out clinical reviews of new antimicrobial agents for consideration for addition to the formulary and plan for the timely introduction, adoption and diffusion of any new antimicrobials when this has been recommended for use 
  • To participate in all relevant departmental meetings and contribute to effective communication within the department. • To participate in ward pharmacy rotas and attend clinical pharmacy meetings. • To participate in general department rotas including 7 day working and on-call. 
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as requested by the Chief Pharmacist or other Principal or Deputy Chief Pharmacist. 
  • To be aware of and apply, relevant legislation such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, GMP and Medicines’ Act. 
  • To at all times practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the RPS. 
  • To uphold the security of drugs and the premises at all times. 
  • To ensure that CD checks are completed throughout the hospital biannually.
Requirements
  • Current registrations with the General Pharmaceutical Society 
  • Member of the royal Pharmaceutical Society 
  • Master’s Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent experience) 
  • Post graduate clinical diploma 
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, including CPD 
  • Attend relevant local and national training events/courses. 
  • Non-Medical prescribing 
  • Post graduate studies/experience relating to infection management.
