The concept and meaning of Hospitality refer to the relationship between a customer and a person of interest also called the lead or the host, in which the host/lead receives the guest with a welcoming deed, including the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers. Hospitality in its eternal aspect can be described as “the virtue of a great soul that cares for the whole universe through the means of humanity”. Hospitality is always about people welcoming other individuals alike or not into their homes or other places where they work or spend their time. We have been using it ever since it came across without much of a thought on its origin. Hospitality is a word with a metaphorical meaning. It’s an institution, a belief, a culture. Hospitality professionals around the world come from backgrounds and ideology, their concepts won't even align with other individuals of other industries but they have a unified objective which is to be hospitable to others no matter what. Professionals in this industry and Travellers along with it are fond of the word ‘Hospitality’. Hospitality is related to love, peace and acceptance it is in its essence being Empathetic, peaceful, healing, loving, accepting etc. Hospitality at its core is about taking care, pampering and helping others. This is one of the basic questions we overlook at times.

In the current generation and the constantly growing world, some of these concepts have become over popular with their usage and acceptability. This huge and immense industry of hospitality is one of the most important industry in the functionality of the whole wide world. It is in its own entire world within a world. The hospitality industry has its branches ranging from the ever demanding service industry that includes aspects of accommodation, event organizing, the cruise business, travelling, and ranges till the restaurant business which has even more branches attached to it. It is a multi-trillion-dollar industry majorly depending on disposable income and the availability of leisure time. It ranges from the top tier levels of hospitality services within the sector and expands further down to the areas with the least amount of facilities and riches available. The greatest aspect of this is it does not cease in being hospitable no matter where it goes. The hotel industry is a major and critical factor in the hospitality industry. The hospitality industry size is so massively huge and ravenous that it includes broad categories within the industry which has unique characteristics. Careers in the hospitality industry can be extremely rewarding, however, they are also challenging and fast-paced, which can be overwhelming for most people. This industry is obviously a lot broader and wider than other industries, and its relations are connected to nearly every other profession in the world. One thing is absolutely clear though, the fact that no matter at what level these branches go to, customer service at the end of the day is the backbone of the entire hospitality industry.

The concept of hospitality is extremely old it has been mentioned a lot of times in a lot of transcripts and ancient books. It’s been a relevant concept since the ages of intellectual mankind. There are many different ideas about hospitality is to be offered according to the various cultures of the world. In the past, many societies thought that it was always right to offer hospitality to strangers who came to their door in need of food or shelter as well as other basic amenities. Then came into existence the caravan service shelter that provided resting destinations for the caravans along Middle Eastern routes along with the monasteries and abbeys. In ancient Persia, traveling was carried out through modes of transportation which were the caravans, which carried sophisticated tents for usage along the caravan routes. Eventually, as the time passed there were these structures at certain points on these routes, the generally articulated accommodations known as Khans were placed for better conveyance. These were simple structures consisting of four walls that provided protection against the natural forces of the environment and also gave them the necessary rest and leisure time they needed. These places or areas possible became the very first establishments to offer refuge to travelers. These things could’ve also been possibly been the very first concepts of “hotel” inadvertently. This may seem very strange to many of us today, but it was an important way to survive in many societies, especially in lands where people traveled long distances, often far away from large towns. This was the era that started with English travel and excursions when they built inns as their private residences. In 1282 in Florence Italy, the great innkeepers of the city incorporated an association for the purpose of turning hospitality into a business. Inns became licensed and were permitted to import and resell wine. The inns themselves belonged not to the innkeepers but to the city, and they were operated under three-year leases, which was sold by auction. Then comes the period of the 16th century, when the demand of the inns and taverns increased multiple folds. The first hospitality establishment as a hotel was built around this time. Then somewhere around the time of the start of the 19th century, we saw the beginning of luxury Hotels and resorts from the very scratch of it. What followed was a flurry of great hotels, a lot of which are still creating new standards of hospitality. The aspects and features of the hospitality industry have undergone a massive transformation over time since the Colonial Period. Hospitality industry as an organized industry was formed in the 1950s or 1960s when a proper structure was formed. The industrial revolution which began in the 1970s facilitated the construction of hotels in Europe, England, and America with the French and Italian veterans following suit. But the industrial growth wasn’t the only thing affected by it, technological advancements boosted growth in all the sectors nationwide comprising of the economic, social as well as political norms of the nations worldwide. Workers in the Hospitality field grew both personally and professionally who in return acquired new and distinctive skills, and their relation to their tasks shifted from being a craftsman working with only hand tools they also became interested and capable in handling machines and sought out to become experts in it.

The hospitality industry is growing at such an immensely rapid pace while contributing a huge amount of capital to the world’s overall G.D.P. In the West, today hospitality is rarely a matter of protection and survival as it was once before and it is now even more associated with the etiquette and means of the highest form of entertainment. However, the basic concept and ideology still persist which involves showing the utmost respect for the hospitable ones while providing for their needs as well as treating them as equals. Cultures and modern society principles vary in the extent to which one is expected to show hospitality to strangers, as opposed to how personal friends or members treat each other of their own group. Nowadays individuals of other professional careers seek service in other aspects rather than the same old rewritten methodology. Today’s hoteliers analyze the changing trends to give better criteria and provide modern standards as well as their own insights to improve the quality of life in hotels. The industry has developed a lot since the previous times. The casual dining has seen growth, as well as the number of branded chains of hotels,  has increased. With five-star property brands like Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Starwood, Ritz etc., the hospitality industry seems to be doing quite well. Thousands of hotel rooms are in pipeline and transportation for travel has taken a leap into the future. The hospitality industry is not only about hotels, dining in and lodging. It is a wide platform of various fields of the service industry. Because of an upheaval of job satisfaction within the hotels for various hotels which might be a hard truth to accept, has now given the industry even more financial backup than ever before and this continuity has no intention of stopping.

Only knowledgeable individuals who have sought to make a professional career out of this are the ones best suited for this job. The companies and organisations who have invested their time and effort in setting up of these mechanised instruments generally have the basic mindset of making sure that they are not damaged by individuals without experience or expertise and in the totality within the industry there is always a need for professionals  who can train their employees about the safety measure in case of situations which become a hindrance to the company. All these concepts are minor concepts which require more attention to be paid in the long run.

Present-day hoteliers must be provided with a detailed set of instructions specifying the way in which everyday activities need to be performed, the order in which they need to do things, and so forth. This signifies a need for professionals with the knowledge to enroll such training activities onto its employees. The industry needs more professionals than ever with the expertise to provide on such topics. There is always going to be a need for experts in this field. No right mind in this world would deny that the world needs to progress forward for a better future, this is also true for individuals to progress in their own life thus providing sustenance for themselves while also generating growth for the world. With the growing world and the world’s constant demand, there was a huge growth within the industrial sector of the United Kingdom. This also generated a great outburst of job demands and requirements of expert individuals. In the early sixteenth century wherein England had considered making no distinction between vagrants and the jobless. Both were categorized as "sturdy beggars". In 1535 a bill was drawn to solve and deal with the problem of unemployment within the country, also hoping that the bill will solve the problems of the people dealing with the starve or steal mentality of life, this was to be funded by the income and capital of the country. Later in the 1576 Act, each town was required to provide work for the unemployed. During the 16th century, the United Kingdom saw considerable improvement, particularly in the quality of accommodations. The common mode of transportation used back then was called a stagecoach. Stagecoaches were forced to make overnight stops on long journeys(obviously the times have changed now). These called for not only food and rest for the horses but also food and accommodations for the passengers. Poverty was a  constantly growing and a highly visible pest in the eighteenth century, both in cities and in the countryside. A direct result of which was the construction of inns or taverns at suitable locations along the stagecoach routes. Since the passengers were mainly wealthy people, accustomed to certain luxuries, the stagecoaches contributed not only to growth in the number of inns but also to improvements in their quality. The first hospitality establishment as a hotel was built around this time. Coming further down to the 21st century we come to an understanding that recruitment processes have become quicker but individuals fulfilling that requirement have become lesser, the current world is desirous of well-faceted skill set within individuals.
